Metro by T-Mobile Unveils New Plans With 5-Year Price Lock – Technologist

Last month, Metro by T-Mobile unveiled a new lineup of cell phone plans with lower prices overall. Plus, all plans now come with a 5-year price guarantee. Top-tier plans also include device upgrade perks, international texting and Amazon Prime.

In this article, I’ll take a closer look at Metro by T-Mobile’s newest plans, including what’s available, what you’ll get for the price and how they compare to other prepaid plans on the same network.

Metro by T-Mobile’s New Plan Prices & Perks

On April 22, T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile announced new online and in-store cell phone plans. Metro by T-Mobile lowered the price of its top-tier unlimited plan and added a 5-year price guarantee to all of its plans.

The new Metro Flex Unlimited Plus plan (previously Metro Flex Plus) costs $60/month with autopay for one line. The price drops to as low as $35/month per line with four lines. Compared to the previous plan, that’s $10 cheaper per line.

Now, here’s what you’ll get with Metro Flex Unlimited Plus:

  • Unlimited 5G data (35GB high-speed)
  • Unlimited talk and text
  • 25GB hotspot data
  • 100GB Google One Membership
  • T-Mobile Tuesdays
  • Scam Shield
  • 5-Year Price Guarantee (New)
  • Phone Upgrades (New)
  • Amazon Prime (New)
  • HD video (New)
  • Watch & Tablet Lines for $5 (BYOD) (New)
  • Unlimited International Texting to 210+ Countries (New)

For a slightly cheaper unlimited plan, Metro Flex Unlimited costs $50/month for one line, or as low as $30/month per line with four lines. It includes all the same benefits as the former Metro Flex Start plan for the same price.

Those benefits include unlimited talk, text and 5G data (35GB high-speed), 8GB of hotspot data and a 100GB Google One membership. It also still includes T-Mobile Tuesdays and Scam Shield. However, new benefits include the 5-year price guarantee and upgrades on phones.

There are two other Metro by T-Mobile plans available online. For $25, you can get 10GB of high-speed data when you bring your own device. Additionally, you can get a $40 Starter plan with the same amount of high-speed data when you bring your own phone or purchase a new one online.

However, for the same prices, you can get a much better value by activating your service in a store.

Exclusive In-Store-Only Plans

  • Starter Plus: $40 for unlimited talk, text and 5G data (35GB high-speed). To get this plan, activate a new line in-store with a number transfer.
  • Unlimited 5G Data: $25 for all the same benefits as Starter Plus. To get this plan, activate a new line in-store with a number transfer.

To save the most money with Metro by T-Mobile, I recommend bringing your own phone. First, check to see if your phone is unlocked. If it is, check its compatibility with Metro by T-Mobile’s network online.

Metro by T-Mobile: An Affordable Prepaid Alternative

If you aren’t familiar with Metro by T-Mobile, it’s a prepaid cell phone service provider that provides access to the same towers that T-Mobile’s network uses to operate

Metro by T-Mobile offers six different prepaid plans, including two unlimited plans including two “Starter” plans, two “Unlimited” plans and two “Bring Your Phone” plans. Prices start as low as $25/month for one line, which means you’ll likely be able to save on cell phone service by switching to Metro by T-Mobile.

To compare, T-Mobile’s postpaid unlimited plans start at $50/month for one line with Essentials Saver. It includes unlimited talk, text and 50GB of premium data. For the same price, Metro Flex Unlimited offers unlimited 5G data plus 8GB of hotspot data and a 100GB Google One membership. If you bring your own number and activate your service in store, Metro offers a much more competitive price of $25/month for unlimited 5G data.

Alternatively, T-Mobile’s top-tier plan, Experience Beyond, costs $100/month. While it’s significantly more expensive than Metro Flex Unlimited Plus ($60), it does include several additional perks, including streaming subscriptions and international roaming data.

Compared to other prepaid plans, you may be able to find similar high-speed data allotments and more mobile hotspot data than Metro by T-Mobile’s plans. Here are a few of our other favorite unlimited prepaid plans that utilize T-Mobile’s towers:

  • Mint Mobile (Review): Unlimited high-speed data (with temporary deprioritization possible after 35GB/month) is available for $30/month the first three months. For a limited time, new customers can prepay for a year to get the same plan for $20/month. This plan includes 10GB of mobile hotspot.
  • US Mobile (Review): Unlimited Starter is available on the Light Speed network for $25/month or $270/year ($22.50/month). This plan includes 35GB of high-speed data before throttled speeds and 10GB of hotspot data.
  • Google Fi Wireless (Review): Unlimited Essentials costs $35 for 30GB of high-speed data, which makes Metro by T-Mobile’s in-store $25 Unlimited 5G Data plan a better deal. However, Unlimited Standard costs $50 for one line and includes 50GB of high-speed data plus 25GB of hotspot data. That’s a better value for the same price compared to Metro Flex Unlimited.

Final Thoughts

Before you switch to Metro by T-Mobile, check your phone’s compatibility online and make sure you’ll have service in your area by checking Metro by T-Mobile’s coverage map. If you’re willing to transfer your number, consider activating your service at a Metro by T-Mobile store to get the best plan rates.
